The Academic Appointment Diversity and Publicity Taskforce (AADAPT) is dedicated to increasing diversity in all forms including but not limited to gender, race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, age, ability, and sexual orientation in Smithsonian Institution’s internships and fellowships.

AADAPT’s pan-institutional team meets quarterly. Members regularly participate in outreach events such as affinity-group conferences and internship/career fairs in Washington, DC and around the country to promote SI academic programs to diverse audiences. White House Initiative on HBCUs

The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities convened the 2016 National HBCU Week Conference, which ran from Sunday 10/22/16 to Wednesday 10/26/16. The conference consisted of seminars, meetings, and meet and greets; United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch even spoke at the conference on Tuesday.       For three weeks, beginning August 16 and ending September 1, 2016, ten high school students from Arlington, VA and Alexandria, VA took part in an externship program at the Smithsonian Institution through the Office of Fellowships and Internships.
