Pamela (Hudson) Veenbaas wears many hats at the Office of Fellowships and Internships. Since April 1990, she has been doing some of everything in the office and now holds the title of Program Manager.

Pamela attended school at Michigan State University and received her degrees in Zoology and Sociology. She continued on to receive her master’s degree in Museum Studies/Anthropology and Biology at The George Washington University. Prior to her work at OFI, Pamela had a diverse array of work experiences, several of which occurred at the Smithsonian Institution. Formerly, Pamela worked as a social worker with the Foster Care System in Detroit, Michigan. She also volunteered at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park as well as the National Museum of Natural History’s Entomology department. She has served as the Chair of the SI Internship Council, Chair of the Smithsonian On-Line Academic Appointments oversight committee and served on the Institution’s Internal Controls Steering Committee. Pamela designed a self-guided tour for high school students at the Hirshhorn Museum. Pamela grew up going to museums and zoos, which helped spark her interest in the Smithsonian. She loves everything from art to science and feels the institution is the perfect place for her interests. Pamela grew up in a household focused on education and because of this enjoys working with students and learners of all ages.

In her spare time, Pamela enjoys metalsmithing, fusing glass, and spending time with her dog Dunbar. She is a member of the American Alliance of Museums, the Committee for Diversity in Museums, the International Council of Museums, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, National Capital Art Glass Guild and the American Craft Council.
