Where Art Thou Fellow?
The Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) is one of our nation’s leading centers for the study of American art. Supporting new scholarship on art, craft, and visual culture of the United States, the Museum’s fellowship program is one of the crown jewels of SAAM’s research efforts.
Fellowships provide Ph.D. students and advanced scholars with opportunities to pursue research in association with the museum’s curators and staff. Fellowship recipients are chosen through a competitive process juried by Smithsonian curators and scholars. American Art’s fellowship program has enriched the field of American art history for more than four decades, hosting more than 400 fellows and 160 visiting scholars since its founding in 1970.
