SARF Fellow Shares her 3-D Art

DSC_0041[1]Sue Lawty, originally from Yorkshire, England, is currently a Smithsonian Art Research Fellow (SARF) working in the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) and the National Museum of African Art Museum (NMAfA). Sue specializes in 3-D design, particularly with rock and stone and has particular interest in weaving fabrics, making art with stones and rocks, and even working with led.

Sue had the opportunity to present and share her work and interests to a group of her colleagues here at the Smithsonian on April 7th. She showed us amazing pieces of her art as well as photographs she took from her travels around the world to countries including Jordan, Whales, Kenya, Butan, Nepal, Iceland, Australia, and more. She was able to share with us her particular interests in 3-D design as well as some of her large scale projects, such as the World Beach Project with the Victoria and Albert Museum, encouraging everyday people around the world do to art with stone.
