Kristeen MacKenzie is a Stable Isotopes Fellow at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), doing research that could predict the fate of certain fish, such as tuna, in the event of another El Nino phenomenon. Kristeen has been working in the waters of the Bay of Panama to find samples of salps that will help her to determine how much fish rely upon upwellings waters, which would be suppressed by an El Nino-type event. During the remainder of her fellowship, Kristeen plans to continue doing cutting-edge research that will really make a difference in the management and conservation of fisheries!

You can read more about Kristeen’s work in the STRI newsletter, here.
