Office of Human Resources Internship Opportunity!
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This internship is perfect for the Human Resources, Business Administration student or someone who seeks to gain experience and knowledge with federal and nonfederal benefits programs. Spend your spring exploring the benefits programs offered at the Smithsonian for its trust fund and federal employees. The intern(s) may assist with the coordination of a number of HR projects (e.g. 2015 Spring Wellness Fair (estimated 500+ attendees), assist with the planning for 2015 Benefits Outreach presentations/ annual open season benefits fairs, as well as or assisting with developing procedures to comply with ACA (Affordable Care Act) reporting requirements.
The intern may also assist in developing communication/articles, revising existing benefits presentations and/or developing new presentations. This internship offers a great opportunity to work with experts in the Benefits field and to learn the intricacies of federal and nonfederal benefit rules and regulations, as well as interacting with managers and staff in the Human Resources department at the Smithsonian.
QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate, graduate student or graduate who has completed coursework or is currently enrolled in human resources, business administration, communication studies. Interest in working with undergraduate and/or graduate level interns.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Learn how different benefits programs are administered
- Gain experience in managing and coordinating groups and event planning
- Hone office skills and office management processes
- Refine writing and editing skills through the review and production of benefits communications and projects
TIMETABLE: Spring or Summer. January through May 2015 (spring) or May through August 2015 (summer)
