Jaw Dropping Water Birth

Posted on May 13, 2015 by in The OFI Blog

ClidastesUsing fossils held in the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, former Smithsonian pre-doctoral fellow and current Yale researcher Daniel Field recently pieced together that aquatic reptiles of the Mesozoic era known as mosasaurs must have given birth to live young.

Daniel made the discovery by analyzing some baby mosasaur fossil jaw bones that had been mislabeled since they were first collected in Kansas during the late 1800s.
