NASM Announces Communications/Marketing Fall Internship at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum (NASM) is seeking one part-time fall intern to support its marketing and communications activities. This internship is based at the museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.
Learning Objectives:
Gain skills related to media relations as they pertain to a large, public museum by assisting/staffing media and documentary film/photo shoots.
Obtain/expand knowledge related to destination marketing through work on advertising plans and development and implementation of a museum program’s multi-media marketing plan.
Learn about outreach efforts to local tourism industry organizations.
Understand daily operations of a large scale museum, both on a daily basis and for special programs through hands-on interaction with visitors and other duties as assigned.
Develop skills relating to survey research by assisting with the design, implementation, and analysis of a visitor survey.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing, or recently attained a degree in communications, public relations, advertising, marketing, mass media, or tourism.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Location:
This internship is based at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Transportation will not be provided. Free parking will be available at the museum, and public transportation is available from the Wiehle/Reston East Park and Ride via Fairfax Connector bus.
Hours, Dates, and Stipend:
The award recipient will be expected to intern a minimum of 20 hours per week between November 9, 2015 and December 14, 2015. Schedules will be agreed upon by the intern and supervisor. A stipend of $1,650 will be offered for the six week internship.
