Interns learn about the Big Man sculpture

Amy Bower, Coordinator of Public Programs and Education at HMSG, teaches SI interns about the Big Man sculpture

As an intern at the Smithsonian, you get the opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore galleries like never before!

At the Morning in the Museum event on 7/7/16, interns were given a tour of the main galleries of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG) and got the chance to peek into collections storage. Only a small portion of the works the Hirshhorn Museum owns are able to go up on display, and the intern tour got the inside look at the thousands of art pieces waiting to go out for public viewing. The interns also met a team of conservationists, docents, and curators that make the art come to life from storage to display.
