Maiss, a YES! intern this past fall, presents on her work and experiences.

Each year, the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) hosts the Youth Engagement through Science (YES!) internship program for high school students in Washington D.C. In this program, students have the opportunity to go on special field trips, take special classes, and give their own TED-Ed talks.

The above video is of past YES! intern Maiss and her experience with YES!. Maiss talks about how she had little interest in pursuing science in high school due to the way it was taught, but discovered her passion for it during her internship. She surveyed her classmates and found that many people felt the same way about science. Her argument then is that the way science is taught should be changed, and it’s exciting to see where she might continue with this in the future.

To see other interns talks, and to apply for YES!, check out the Q?rius post here before the Friday 1/27/17 application deadline.
