Former Smithsonian fellow Dr. Allison Marsh is currently director of The University of South Carolina’s Public History Program; she is changing the way students learn history.

Her article “Collective Forgetting“, which focuses on the Smithsonian’s ‘curative crisis’, went on to win the 2014 IEEE Award for Distinguished Literacy Contributions Furthering Public Understanding. More recently Marsh has developed the course History 478: “Material Culture in a Digital Age” offered through the University of South Carolina. The course was designed around the digital initiatives the Smithsonian was developing during her fellowship. She continues to share her student’s feedback with the Smithsonian to help them better understand how millennials learn. Recently she was awarded the 2016 Garnet Apple Award for Teaching Innovation at the University of South Carolina.
