Museum Conservation Institute Fellow Dr. Katharyn Hanson

Dr. Katharyn Hanson is an archaeologist who specializes in the protection and conservation of cultural heritage. A fellow with the Museum Conservation Institute (MCI), she has recently been working in Erbil.

Smithsonian Magazine recently published an article about Dr. Hanson’s work in Iraq. Over the past year, Dr. Hanson has been training Iraqi cultural heritage practitioners how to protect and restore their heritage, even when it’s been damaged or destroyed in man-made attacks. This training goes a long way in laying the foundation in preventing further harm.
