In 2015, The University of Houston (UH) and the Smithsonian Institution signed an agreement, which paved the way for students from UH to do internships in various locations within the Smithsonian. The internship takes place just as the spring semester comes to an end and lasts until early June, amounting to four, quick weeks spent exploring and learning within the Smithsonian and Washington D.C.
This year, the UH Honors College sent seven students to intern in areas within the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), the National Zoological Park (NZP), the Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI), the Smithsonian Institution Archives (SIA), The Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (CFCH) Folkways Recordings, and the Smithsonian Gardens. From writing blog posts to helping with exhibits to doing research in their respective areas, these UH students learned a great amount.
