An Explosive Summer (Literally)
At a young age, Charlie Detelich was captivated by planetary science, even going to the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) for her birthdays. As a student at North Carolina State University (NCSU), she has capitalized on that nascent interest to double major in geology and meteorology.
This summer, Charlie has the opportunity to further her passion for space with an internship at NASM. Acting as field support for her supervisor at NASM, Charlie will go to Hawaii to take sediment samples at the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. When she returns to DC, Charlie will compare the Hawaiian samples to samples from Mars in an effort to uncover the processes that shaped the Red Planet eons ago.
