Insect Specimen Preparation and Identification

DESCRIPTION: Interns will assist in museum preparation of recently collected insect specimens. Including sorting field collected samples, mounting of specimens on insect pins or paper points, label making, organization of specimens into species-level categories, identification of species into family groups, and incorporation of identified specimens into the main research collection.

QUALIFICATIONS: Some experience with insect specimens is preferred but not required. Interest in insect diversity and form, with a particular eye for detail are assets.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Interns will learn insect collection management techniques including sorting field collected samples, mounting of specimens on insect pins or paper points, label making, organization of specimens into species-level categories, and identification of species into family groups.
